DIY in Progress

I have been working on my DIY project! Dave helped me cut the legs down so that it's bench height. It's hard to see in the photo, but the paint is kind of a seafoam green. I've got one more layer to paint and then I may distress it a bit. You can see my fabric selection too. Everything's cut out and the foam has been cut to size too. I started sewing and then got frustrated so I'll have to take it slowly. Hope to finish sometime next week!

I'm heading back home tomorrow to attend my cousin's funeral. She was like a sister to my mom and an amazing human being. I hadn't spend much time around her since I was a teenager but I thought of her often and loved her. The last time I can remember seeing her was at a craft fair my mom was participating in. I'll have to find the picture I took of them together and frame it for my mom.

I fell in love with these today while in Etsy! Aren't they cute!? They're from Little Red Cottage. She has some great scrapbook supplies and she's clearing them out. These flowers are suede embellishements. Love the muted colors! Check out her Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=21060754

I finally started my DIY project

Okay, so I had hoped to get myself motivated to finish my DIY project. I had also hoped to enter it in the apartmenttherapy.com contest. The deadline is on Monday and I just started working on my project yesterday. Go figure. I thought I was making strides in overcoming my procrastination. Apparently not.

Yesterday I was reading the decor8blog.com and was once again motivated to start and finish my project. I wrote down some goals and got started. I bought fabric and foam for the bench cushion. I sanded the bench/table and got some much needed advice from my neighbors: don't stain it. Good, it takes less time to lightly sand then prime and paint! Today I'm going to fix the drawer (falling apart!) and the leg (wobbly). I'm going to cut the legs off so that it's short enough to be a bench. I'm also going to prime it. I hope to make the cushion today too -- my favorite part!
As you can see from the pictures, I got most of the old paint off of the table. The last two pictures show the original condition. Pretty sad looking but not for long!
I'm off to the hardware store to get tack cloth, paint, and "feet" for under the legs so the bench can be easily moved around. Wish me luck!

DIY Project

I was excited to see a contest for do-it-yourselfers on apartmenttherapy.com. The "Do It Now" February project can be just about any home project. I'm going to do it! I've got a couch-back table that I purchased secondhand probably 6 years ago and it needs help. I'm going to cut the legs down and make it into a bench for my craft room. It's going to take some work but with this contest I know I'll get it done. I'll post pictures as I go. I have to finish the project before Feb. 23rd! I'm going to start working on it tomorrow!

Etsy Shop Critiqued

This morning I had an opportunity to have my Etsy shop critiqued and I took advantage of it! I learned a lot from the critique as well as the critiques of other shops. I'm adding more cards and scrapbooks for sure! I'll work on my descriptions for the custom books too. Per their suggestion, I'm going to try to do something to update it every other day. I'm adding the a few new cards soon, so check them out. I'll try to work on building some card sets, as that was another suggestion.
